When I was a kid, living in a
small town in upstate New York, I was fascinated by the English
Sparrows and Starlings in our back yard. Years later, attending
graduate school at Tulane University, I took several field biology
courses, including Avian Biology, in the wetlands of Louisiana. We
were lucky to have an original elephant folio copy of John
J. Audubon's wood block prints in the school library. His wonderful
illustrations left a life-long impression on me. My Audubon
Impressions are clay sculptures with antique bronze patinas.
I receive great satisfaction
in making them, and imagining what J.J. Audubon must have
experienced in his travels.
